Ciao! I’m Carole.
I was born in Brussels and brought up in French and Italian with the Flemish radio on in the background. I’m passionate about languages and I’ve always been driven by the will to tell stories, which brought me both to journalism and illustration –and to graphic journalism, as a result.
I graduated as a journalist at IHECS College (Brussels) and as an illustrator at Mimaster (Milan) – I also had the opportunity to briefly study at DIT (Dublin) and ESDIP Escuela de Arte (Madrid). In the future, I would love to settle in many other countries, even for a short period of time!
For the last years, I’ve been working at French weekly Courrier international (Paris), where I’ve held different positions – web editor, social media editor, Italian desk, Belgian desk, visual journalist. As an illustrator I’ve worked for media outlets and private clients.
Being an artist allowed me to never totally cut off from the playfulness of my childhood, its spontaneous amazement and fascination for beautiful images, and I feel immensely lucky and grateful for it. My visual universe is lively and colorful, usually jolly and at times nostalgic. In my drawings, I use both traditional techniques (pencil, gouache, watercolor, pastel, Indian ink…) and digital. My idea of luxury is owning a lot of colored pencils and that dream is gradually coming true.
When not working, you’ll usually find me rock climbing, sketching, reading or cooking pasta.
